Introduction: A.I.S. is a private coeducational institution licensed by the U.A.E. Ministry of Education. Instruction is provided from KG 1 to the 12th grade. A.I.S. implements the American system of teaching adapted to the cultural and environmental requirements set by the U.A.E. Ministry of Education. While the language of instruction is English, A.I.S. is also proud to offer an extensive Arabic program for both native and foreign speakers. The study of the French language begins in 5th grade and continues until 12th grade. Religious training is provided for all Moslem students in our Islamic Studies courses.
A.I.S. is proud of its international heritage. Our current student body of approximately 900 students is made up of individuals from over 46 different nations. To assist these individuals in their preparations for post-secondary education, students beginning their high school careers may choose to work toward an American college preparatory degree and/or fulfill
I.G.C.S.E. requirements, thereby preparing themselves for entry into American, Arabic, or European universities. I.G.C.S.E. is a 2 year course (9&10th grade), 11th grade takes two A.S. courses in addition to the curriculum assigned by the school. We are an I.G.C.S.E. Test center through the Cambridge Examining Board and A-Level Test Center through the London Board.
The maximum class size at A.I.S. is 25 students. Primary classes are taught by fully qualified teachers with native English speaking backgrounds, and are assisted by full-time aides. KG to Grade 4 are self-contained groups instructed by native English speakers. Grades 5-12 receive instruction from specialized subject teachers.
Every year, students in grades Prep through Grade 8 take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (
I.T.B.S.). This is an
American standardized test that allows A.I.S. to monitor individual progress, as well as progress in comparison with other international schools using si milar curricula. Students in 11th grade write ACT, SAT I and TOEFL, and in the 12th grade write SAT I, II and Advanced Placement.
Students with sufficient difficulty in the skill areas of reading and/or math, who are better instructed on an
individual basis, are placed in our Continuous Progress program. This program allows the student to continue regular classes while at the same time receiving the level of instruction in math and reading where the most effective learning can take place.
The school, which is 18 years old, began with Kinderga rten class and gradually grew. In 1998 we will be having our 4th graduating class. In the past three years, 95% of our graduating students have been accepted and are attending universities in
America, Canada, Australia, U.K., Lebanon, Egypt and Europe.
A.I.S. has an extensive athletic and extracurricular program available to all. Students have an opportunity to join varsity school teams such as basketball, soccer, volleyball and tennis. The school provides various activities ranging from gymnastics, badminton, floor hockey, cooking, arts and crafts, and dance to the environmental club.
